End of Season Awards Night 2022-2023

20.05.2023

A good group of over 70 players, coaches, officials and supporters came to the club to celebrate the end of another season. The chairman, Emlyn Roberts, extended a warm welcome to everyone, including the guest, Rowland Phillips. [former winger for Wales] But before enjoying Welsh beef on offer, prepared by Gweno and Merfyn, tribute was paid to Chris Williams and Kevin Ephraim, and there was a minute of touching silence to remember them both. After the meal, Rowland Phillips told a little about his history in a manner full of his unique humour, [remember how he appeared on Jonathan's programme], starting in his birthplace in Ty Ddewi before moving on very soon to Neath. He received his first cap in 1987 with Wales winning the triple crown. He switched to Allies rugby in 1990, before returning to coach in Neath in 1998. Rodd was one of Wales' coaches in the early 00s, before he went to coach in Italy for 4 years. After a short period with the London Welsh, he came to train the Welsh women, ten years ago, including our Elen Evans, and is proud of the progress in the team in this period. He is now training successfully again with Merthyr.
