Division 2 North Saturday 13th April 2019
Another big win for Dolgellau, but the situation remains the same. The winner of next weekend’s huge clash between Dolgellau and Cobra will be promoted to the first Division. The looser will have to sweat it out for a while until both clubs play Rhyl, and thus, both would need to beat the sea-siders to be safe of promotion. Llanidloes arrived with only 14, and thus secured the abomination of un-contested scrums from the off, and this in front of Welsh women coach, Roland Phillips, who stopped by to watch the game. Dolgellau went ahead after four minutes, stand-off Dafydd Roberts’ well timed pass saw centre Gareth Hughes burst through and his strength was enough to storm over from 30m out. It was Dafydd Roberts’ perfect chip that saw wing Jake Hinge score out on the left, making the score 10-0 after only eight minutes. Second row, Marius Jones signalled his return with a try, which was converted by Jake Hinge, before centre Gareth Hughes added his second of the game on the half hour mark, making it 22-0. Dolgellau scrum half, Lewis Jones hit a purple patch at the end of the half scoring two tries in a minute, both from over 40m out with typical sniping runs. Hinge converted the latter score to put Dolgellau 34-0 at the interval. The pick of Dolgellau’s eleven tries came thirteen minutes into the second half. Centre Jac Roberts’ storming run, with hooker, Celt Lewis and full back, James Owen, all exchanged neat passes before Owen finished the move off in style. Replacement Eben Jones, wing Rob Pugh and Centre Jac Roberts added three more scores, with Dafydd Roberts converting one and Jac Roberts drop converting his own score to put Dolgellau 58-0 ahead. As Dolgellau eased off, Llanidloes kept going and with a couple of minutes remaining were rewarded with second row Dave Pugh crashing over after a period of sustained Llani pressure. Centre Thomas Jerman converted, and the visitors were pressing for a second score, when Dolgellau wing Rob Pugh latched on to a clearance kick from skipper, Rhys Roberts to sprint home from half way to score and so end the scoring.
