Dolgellau Youth 43-v-0 Colwyn Bay Youth

Dolgellau Youth progress to round two of the WRU national bowl competition, with a convincing victory over Colwyn Bay Youth on the Marian this Saturday.

Forty three unanswered points over the former division one side as the Dolgellau boys claim their third victory on the bounce.

Colwyn Bay arrived without an experienced front row resulting in an uncontested scrum format but is was Dolgellau who dominated the remaining areas of play.  The home team soon put points on the board with a try by Hooker Celt Lewis.  Another front row try by Prop Dafydd Jones soon followed as Colwyn Bay started to buckle under Dolgellau pressure.

A total of five tries in the first half with Celt Lewis bagging a second and one a piece from Centre Dean Thomas and Fullback Elis Smith.

The second half saw two tries to Nine Lewis Jones and Standoff and Captain Dafydd Roberts.  A total of four conversions accounted for the final scoreline.

Dolgellau's dominance stemmed from fitness, physicality and a refusal to permit Colwyn Bay to register a score.  Some huge performances up front with impressive work rates bay all.

The "Man of the match" award could have gone to a number of players, notably Celt Lewis with his two tries, Rhys Lewis, Tim Jones or Aron Jones.  Dafydd Jones takes the honours this week with a commanding physical presence causing problems to the cover defence.

It was particularly pleasing to see Meirion Edwards return to the fold with a solid shift at number eight.

Try of the match goes to Elis Smith who eluded four or five tackles to score a memorable try in the first half.

Dean Thomas stepped up to put in his first appearance for Dolgellau at thirteen, whilst wings Dafydd Bryan and Osian Roberts put in an impressive defensive performance to prevent Colwyn Bay from establishing any momentum.

Halfback paring of Lewis Jones and Dafydd Roberts controlled the tempo of the game, releasing Henri Tomos Roberts at twelve to tie up the midfield and cover defence.

The bench played its part with solid performances from Gwion Lloyd, Cell Evans and Osian Lewis-smith.

Whilst Colwyn Bay were second on the day, to their credit, they showed spirit and refused to give in.

Thank you to the ladies who prepared the food and for family and friends for lending their support during the game and assistance in clearing the field after the match.

Well done All.

Tries: Celt Lewis (2), Dafydd Jones, Dean Thomas, Elis Smith, Lewis Jones and Dafydd Roberts.
