Dolgellau u15s 26 CRCC 24

On this glorious spring morning CRCC u15s were the visitors to the Marian. The Cardiff side were finishing of their tour with this match before they headed back southwards.

The south walians certainly started the strongest, scoring three tries in the first 20 minutes. Scores from their winger, centre and powerful no8 took them 17-0 up. Despite the score line Dolgellau were competing well against this big and powerful side.

After the interval it was the home side that scored first. No8 Ifan Jones chasing a loose ball and scoring in the corner.
The visitors then scored again, some quick hands and pace allowing them a touchdown out wide.

Dolgellau the literally took the game by the scruff of the neck. Defensively they were putting CRCC under huge pressure, which led to numerous handling errors from the visitors.Flanker  Gwydion Edwards and lock Mathew Maslin were again to the fore tackling and harrying at every opportunity. Also centre pairing  Owain Thomas and Gwion Jones, working well  together in defence and attack.

With the bit between their teeth Dolgellau scored under the post. A clever chip kick by fly half Tom Markham in the 22 forced the visitors into a hastily formed defensive ruck, The home side then regained possession allowing the Markham to touch down.

They then scored two additional tries from the excellent Rhys Wyn Jones. The fullback had been forced into defensive duties through much of the first half, but these two tries show cased his pace and power. The first one came when he beat the winger on the outside, the second by bursting up the middle of a retreating defensive line.

This proved enough to take the victory, despite some nail biting moments in the last 10 mins the local boys held firm for what was a well deserved win.

This was an excellent match with every player contributing. Attitude was certainly the key, it would have been easy to roll over at 24-5 down, but the Dolgellau boys stuck to their task and their commitment was there for all to see. Man of the match today was centre Owain Thomas who was truly outstanding throughout.

Scores:
Ifan Jones 1t
Tom Markham 1t
Rhys Wyn Jones 2t
Gwion Jones 3cons
