Dolgellau 62.V. 0 Rhyl

Division 2 North  Saturday 30th March 2019

It is still tense at the top of the table, with all three sides winning on the weekend. The maths is still complicated, but Dolgellau need to win three of their remaining four matches, gaining two bonus points to gain promotion to the 1st Division.
They did all they could against Rhyl scoring ten tries on a glorious spring afternoon. The first came after ten minutes. Flanker Iwan Pugh’s march up the centre of the park saw stand-off, Dafydd Roberts find centre Henri Roberts to dash down the right side for the score. Only three minutes later it was Dafydd Roberts again, this time with the boot ahead that was expertly gathered by centre Jac Roberts to score under the posts. Henri Roberts converted to give the hosts a 12-0 lead.  The visitors coped well at the set pieces, but they squandered  possession and opportunities with poor execution.
Dolgellau scored their third on the half hour mark, Iwan Pugh again creating an opening that eventually saw winger , Gareth Hughes , sprint home.  Henri Roberts converted, and only four minutes later, the bonus point score came. This time flanker Guto Jones creating, and  Henri Roberts and Gareth Hughes neat inter passing saw  stand-off Dafydd Roberts score a great team try.  Henri Roberts converted to make it 26-0. With only seconds of the half remaining a meandering run, by speed merchant, Jake Hinge, was halted a meter out. Hooker, Celt Lewis, appeared from nowhere, and fed stalwart no.8 Dylan Llewelyn to score the simplest of touchdowns.  31-0 at the interval.
Dolgellau wing, Jake Hinge scored a second half hattrick of tries, all within 23 second half minutes, to keep well ahead in the try scoring stakes with 16 tries in all competitions.  Replacement Dewi Thomas added another, and Hinge, converted three of the tries and Dolgellau led 57-0.
The visitors pinned Dolgellau back for the remainder of the match, but not before, replacements Carwyn Pugh and Rob Pugh made space for wing, Gareth Hughes to go over for Dolgellau’s tenth try, and his second of the game.
Dolgellau at home to Newton on Saturday the 6th April.
