Dolgellau Youth 52-v-0 COBRA Youth

Dolgellau Youth make it two from two in the North Wales division two league with a convincing victory over COBRA Youth on the Marian.

COBRA traveled with only twelve players resulting in modified game format and a whitewash scoreline.  Dolgellau matched numbers with six forwards and six backs to start the game.

To their credit, the COBRA boys kept their composure but it was clear from the outset that Dolgellau were dominant in possession and territory.  COBRA did produce some worrying moments for the home team mid way through the first period but were thwarted by the impressive cover defense and Dolgellau's refusal to allow the visitors to score.

Four converted tries in the first half put Dolgellau into a commanding lead, with tries coming from Lewis Jones (2), Danny Evans and Rhys Titley.  Four conversions from four from the boot of Elis Smith.

One change at half time saw Dean Thomas replace Dafydd Bryan.  The second period saw Dolgellau pile on the pressure with early tries from Danny Evans and Dean Thomas.  With the points racking up quickly, Dolgellau's remaining replacements were sent on with Dafydd Jones, Gwion Lloyd and Meirion Edwards for Celt Lewis, Rhys Titley and Jay Thomas Emrys Howells-Evans.  Fresh legs just increased Dolgellau's dominance over the visiting team, resulting in tries by Osian Roberts and Meirion Evans.  The latter score providing a 52 point margin, bringing the game to an early end, with less than fifteen minutes of the second half played.

The most pleasing aspect of the game, was the refusal by Dolgellau to allow COBRA to score when they pressed our line in the first half.  This shows a great attitude from everyone.  Of particular note was the cover defense by Elis Smith, Meirion Evans, Osian Roberts and Dafydd Bryan.  Dafydd Roberts (Capt) controlled the game at ten, moving to a sweeping defensive position due to a knock to his hand.  The work rate up front was great to see, with the stand out forward being Tim Jones.  Man of the match however goes to Lewis Jones at nine with two tries and some impressive running from the base of the scrum.

All in all it was an solid performance by Dolgellau, although work needs to be done to reduce the handling errors ahead of the WRU Bowl first round game against Colwyn Bay next week.

Tries: Danny Evans (2), Lewis Jones (2), Rhys Titley, Dean Thomas, Osian Roberts and Meirion Evans

Cons: Elis Smith (6)
